Tips for Visiting NYC: Book Tickets Ahead, Skip Times Square, Avoid Crowds, Don’t Visit in Summer, Explore Beyond Manhattan

NYC Attractions Tips

New York City is a bustling metropolis that’s home to many world-renowned attractions. If you’re planning a trip to the Big Apple, there are some things you should know before heading off.

To save time and money, purchase your sightseeing tickets ahead of time. Also, be sure to avoid Times Square and the many tourist traps that inhabit it!

1. Book Your Tickets Ahead of Time

NYC is a massive city with a wealth of attractions that will appeal to every type of traveler. Whether you want to learn about natural history at the American Museum of Natural History, explore modern art at MoMA, or get an amazing view from the iconic Empire State Building, there’s something for everyone!

If you’re visiting NYC for the first time, be sure to book your tickets ahead of time. That way, you’ll be guaranteed a spot at the most popular NYC attractions.

Moreover, you’ll also get better prices by booking in advance. For example, you’ll save money on the new Vessel attraction and get free or pay as you wish admission at some of the city’s most famous museums. For more information about buying tickets, visit this page.

2. Don’t Go to Times Square

If you’re a local, chances are you don’t feel like Times Square really represents NYC. The glitz and glamor can be enticing, but it’s not for everyone. If you’re someone who tends to avoid crowds and wants more peace and quiet, I recommend skipping this famous tourist destination.

The most obvious reason to steer clear of Times Square is the crowds. The area swells with tourists at all hours of the day and night. This means there is little breathing room when walking in the area.

Then there are the abrasive street vendors. Stay away from anyone dancing, shouting, singing, making eye contact or asking if you “like comedy.” They’re likely aspiring actors and comics trying to hawk their material in the shadow of the mighty Coke sign.

3. Avoid the Crowds

A visit to NYC is a dream for many, but the crowds can be overwhelming and detract from the experience. Luckily, there are ways to avoid the crowds and have a more authentic and enjoyable time.

The peak tourist season in NYC typically runs from late May to early September, with the summer being the busiest time of year. This is due to school breaks and a host of special events throughout the city.

While Manhattan’s most iconic attractions draw the crowds, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island have some amazing things to see as well. From a massive weekend flea market to the stunning Statue of Liberty, these neighborhoods offer something unique for every traveler. The Bronx Zoo is also a must-see, with over 650 different species and a huge variety of activities and shows for kids.

4. Don’t Go in the Summer

If you’re planning on visiting NYC during the summer, I highly recommend that you plan your trip a little bit earlier so that you can avoid the huge crowds. Also, be sure to book your tickets well in advance if you are planning on using an attraction pass like the New York City Pass.

During the summer, NYC hosts many fun festivals and events that are perfect for families. You can check out a street fair in the Bronx, see a live performance at Lincoln Center, or just enjoy one of the parks in the boroughs, such as Central Park!

You can also check out a local brewery or go for a swim at the many public pools. Lastly, be sure to visit one of the great mom-and-pop ice cream shops that are scattered throughout the city!

5. The World Doesn’t Revolve Around Manhattan

New York City is one of the most iconic cities in the world. It’s also an overwhelming place that can be very intimidating for first time visitors. However, with a little planning and following some of these NYC tips, you can have a great trip!

Rather than waiting in line for the Empire State Building to get that perfect picture, head to a rooftop bar! They have magical views and a delicious drink or meal that will be much easier on your wallet.
